Different Words for the Same Thing

Spanish is official or co-official in 21 countries. However, one of the fascinating (or maddening) aspects of this language are the words which are different from country to country for common items. Does anyone know of a book or dictionary which discusses these differences in detail?
The book need not be in English. Thank-you for any assistance with this.

An example: In American English we have little adhesive bandages commonly called "band-aids" after Band-Aid, the brand. British English uses "plasters", I think. In Spanish, I think some countries also do this with names that sound like brands.

"Curita" and "Tirita"

There is also "apĆ³sito protector", and some other words. What words do you know and which countries use them? "Tirita" is used in Spain.
Anyone use "bandita" or "vendita"?

Feel free to discuss the words used in other languages as well. Thanks!

I use "tirita" and "venda". Tirita is has an adhesive but "venda" doesn't.

In Brazil, at least in Rio, "band-aid" is really called just that, "band-aid".

In Portugal it's called "penso" (think from the latin "pensu")

Will a speaker of Spanish in Central America understand "tirita"?
