Haitian Creole/French mutually intelligible?

I tried looking it up but could not find any information on it.

Anglophone people can get along reasonably well in Jamaica with their "patwa" language -granted with considerable difficulty- but its not too bad if they speak slowly. I was wondering if its the same, for french/haitian creole.


Anybody know?

This can apply pretty much also to the relationship between French and French-based Creoles. Those are supposed to be closer to std French than Jamaican patois is to international English, but Haitian Creole sounds rather like some obscure gibberish with a few identifiable French words or expressions. Which is generally enough to grasp approximate hints of what it is all about.

Are you saying that from your personal experience? Is french your maternal language?
