More Eurocentrism from the Hispanic fanatics. The 'main' country where Spanish is spoken is Mexico with over a 100 million people. But the truth is, other Spanish speakers are so ashamed of the Mexicans that they pretend Mexico doesn't exist. Secondly, those numbers for native English speakers are far too low. Remember in the US there are at least 50 million Spanish speakers both legal and illegal because you are currently the fourth largest producer of the Spanish media. And third the Anglosphere is ashamed of how stupid and ignorants the Americans don't forget that.

To be correct first Spanish State il Mexico with 110 milions of Spanish speakers. As did for Italy/Lombard/Neapolitan, considering only first language, in Spain there are only 25/30 milions of Spanish speakers.

Actually, there are about 25-30 million Spanish speakers in the USA and the majority speak English too. It's just a matter of time before Spanish dies out in America. No body likes learning or listening to it. It is a low prestige gutter language acceptable in some parts of LA and Miami.

The prior "Guest" is correct--the numbers for English are way too low. And you can't argue that you should subtract the Spanish speakers from the total. If you use that logic, you'd have to subtract the tens of millions of people in the Latin America who speak indigenous languages (Quechua, Guarani, Aymara, etc.), as well as Spaniards who speak Catalan, Basque, and others.

20+ million Australian - For English speakers

Generally, in the language section of bookshops in Australia - the Spanish section is the largest or close to the largest. In Australia, many people study Spanish or know it reasonably well. This is in addition to the native Spanish speakers. These significant additional numbers for Spanish do not appear to be included in the overall world total for Spanish.

There are two languages where the number of native speakers are consistently undermined: English and Hindi. 182 million for Hindi is simply ridiculous. The number of native speaker is closer to 600 million with many more near native speakers. Not mention, Urdu and Hindi speakers easily understand each other. And as the other guest pointed out the numbers for English are utterly stupid. It as if people on this forum wish to limit English to the USA and ignore the rest of the vast Anglosphere.

With USA, UK, Australia, Canada alone you're looking at 420+ million native English speakers. There are millions more in Africa. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of native speakers currently touches 500 million. In addition, millions of near-native speakers are present in India and Europe.
