koine and modern greek

I was wondering how different koine and modern Greek are. Are there are any fluent modern greek speakers present who also read the New Testament. I would like to know.

I am a minister and about to start studying koine greek on my own. i would like some info to know if a speaker of modern greek can read the bible in koine.

is it like a modern english speaker reading the KJV or is that any comparison? thanks for the info.

I hope you get a teacher who uses Modern Greek or at least some legitimate Greek pronunciation. I hear that the way Erasmus pronounced it was not very Greek.
