Regional Accents in French

In Bretagne: Is the "k" sound for "t" common? What other characteristics do speakers from this area have, or is adding "k" just a comic rendition of the accent.

Savoie/Savoy: The accent or the prosody is different, but HOW is it different/

What is Philippe Collignon's accent?

Thanks to all who may reply.

<<In Bretagne: Is the "k" sound for "t" common?>>

Absolutely not.

<<is adding "k" just a comic rendition of the accent?>>

Very lokely.

<<What other characteristics do speakers from this area have?>>

Stressing the first syllabes of phrases and long words.

<<Savoie/Savoy: The accent or the prosody is different, but HOW is it different?>>

In the French Alpine region, as well as in Lyons, Saint-Etienne, Jura, Val d'Aoste and French-speaking Switzerland (in short, the so-called "Franco-Provençal" area), people tend to stress both last syllabes of a phrase by raising the pitch: "Y'a pas le feu AU LAC! C'est comme ça l'acCENT SUISSE."

<<What is Philippe Collignon's accent? >>

Qui est Philippe Collignon?

Télématin garden expert and author. I can understand him, but his accent seems "different" to me.

Thanks for the comments about the French-Alpine region.

The "k" sound is because the newscaster is YannicK and his last name has a "c", then?

Do you have any audio sample?

Merci!

You say:

Where's your accent from? I imagine you have tried to adopt a Northern French Standard Accent? Does that mean that educated people from the south hate their own accent and try to lose it as soon as possible?

What a pity!

Dear Interested,

Having an accent when you live in Paris is very bad, you look like a farmer! I had to work hard to loose my accent when i came in Paris in 1997! Now i have a typical parisian accent!

Interested,

I don't have accent, neither from Toulouse nor Paris...in fact my French is really neutral. But I never though it was a bad thing to speak with accent...I love my region and I trying to learn Occitan, it's a nice language.

I think the accent is disappearing because of the mix of the population, more and more people from the north moved to the south each year...

Can you hear an accent in Mr. Collignon's speech?
Tati   Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:46 pm GMT
I don't know who is Mr. Collignon...
