What is the ultimate hurdle in learning a language to perfection?

Poetry? Technical language? Comedy? Rap lyrics?

I say poetry.

Perhaps metaphors.

This website's name is a metaphor.
I provided a very convincing explanation, but it was very quickly deleted.
A number of other less convincing explanations have been allowed to remain on the records here.

I think it is mastering the little words. "The" is a little word, but some second language learners don't master when or how to use it. I know that it took me a little time to use "en" in French. The other thing for me is understanding and recognizing the speech of those who do not speak in a textbook kind of way.

I can finally do this in some languages. It took me awhile to get African French rap. It was pretty embarrassing as I have been speaking French for many years.

I'd say how NOT to take everything literally (wie man NICHT alles wörtlich nimmt) and how to get nuances right.

But ultimately, as long as that is still spoken, your greatest task is how to deal with people.
