I noticed that the thread you cited was very short. Schliemann (Er fand Troja/He "discovered Troy", I think) is certainly an interesting subject.
Repetition is a good language trick for easy acquisition. I listen to recordings repeatedly and the words stick just like music after a few times. So simple, I wonder why more people don't do it. They get bored, I guess.
Some people recommend writing texts out by hand. I do this too. Not sure if this works, but I also review what I write and I do think that reviewing works.
I don't think there is any one way to get a language down except to work steadily and have no fear of the language.
