on/over

I was on the phone/I was over the phone

Which one is more acceptable

"I was on the phone." means that you were having a telephone conversation.
"I was over the phone." means that you were suspended in air above the telephone.

It is perfectly acceptable to tell somebody something over the phone, whilst on the phone.
