English:
Any society pretending to assure freedom to men must begin by guaranteeing them existence.
Deutsch:
corr.
"hun" should be "haar"
<<Any society pretending to assure freedom to men must begin by guaranteeing them existence>>
How about: "You can't eat freedom."
<<Any society pretending to assure freedom to men must begin by guaranteeing them existence>>
I should have mentioned:
I don't think "pretending" is the right word to use in English, in this case.
Also, a direct translation out of a Romance language is going to be too flowery or elaborate anyway. We need something short, simple, and pithy to fit in with the spirit of English.
Any society down with the hip goal of providing freedom and coolness to all its hommies gotta start with hooking em up with existence.
Do you dig it?
<<Do you dig it? >>
Sounds like beatnik slang from the '50s -- do they still use this nowadays?
"garantendone" = "garantendo loro"
"Security first, then freedom"
In programming jargon:
"Freedom prereqs security."
