Capilano and Kitsilano: are they Italian?
The ethnic origin of two places in Vancouver, BC.
Re: Kapilano and Kitsilano
I found a little bit of information about the origins of these two names on the internet. Both are derived from the names of local Salish Indian chiefs who were living in the area in the 1800's. Some ethnolinguists would argue that the Salish were an Alaska native-type people rather than an Amerindian people. Their languages are certainly nothing like the native American languages of eastern Canada and the United States other than the fact that they are still very complex.

I live near Seattle, Wa. myself which is not too far from Vancouver B.C. . It is about a two hour drive from my place to Vancouver just as it is from San Diego to Los Angeles.

I live in Vancouver and recently heard that Jericho Beach is named after Jerry. It was called Jerry's Cove and someone did a nice little tidy up on the spelling and voila - Jericho.
