Modern Standard Arabic

I would like to study Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), but I don't know if this language is really useful.

Do people understand MSA in Morocco, Egypt or Saudi Arabia? Is really useful?

They may understand you, but you will probably not understand their reply.

I thought all educated Arabic speakers know MSA.

What about Gulf Arabic which is spoken in U.A.E, and in Eastern Saudi Arabia?
