What is your view?
On the one hand, it sounds very true -- the business of terrorism is to make a big splash. If they don't, who's going to be terrified? The point of having victims is not just to torment the victims themselves, but to use the example of that torment to strike fear into a much larger group of people -- an audience. Without publicity, well, the only people they struck fear into are the victimes themselves, who are probably now dead.....
On the other hand, if you deny terrorists the sensationalist thrill of an audience's reaction, they may just try to do it bigger and better the next time .... Let's face it, no one paid any attention to Al Qaeda when they were just blowing a hole in the hull of some naval ship in a foreign harbor. We all forgot about the USS Cole about a week later -- after all, it was a military target, sitting in not-so-friendly waters -- it was hardly a shock. But blowing up two or three big buildings on national television -- now that spawned some talk around the water cooler!
