what does it exactly take to write a novel, article , or even a good movie script ?
"writing"
Well-conceived characters, good plotting, good pacing, and an engaging writing style, plus an ear for good dialogue.
Come to think of it, I once read an article on writing where the author pointed out that the dialogue in a novel has to do multiple duties: it has to be interesting to read, advance the plot, add to characterization, and sound realistic and authentic. Editors don't pay for idle conversation, it seems!

And a good handbook for suggestions how to make an art of the English language (assuming if you'll write in English).
Plus a good editor will do too. I have one.
