It also makes me think of boy scouts in uniform. Certainly not a 'boy' in general. Bad word choice IMO of Zamenhof.

The word ''Junge'' (boy) has totally replaced the word ''Knabe'' in normal everyday speach. ''Knabe'' if used, has a very strong pejorative meaning.

Does anyone know how good Zamenhof knew the other source languages for Esperanto?
Maybe the time Zamenhof devised Esperanto, ''Knabe'' was still a normal word in German and got replaced by ''Junge'' some times later. Maybe he was just searching for a fitting word for ''boy'' and picked it arbitrarily. Maybe he use an old dictionary then.
