'This time I tell it all...' is incorrect English!
No, he wish to say 'This time I tell you all'.
Yeah, we were waiting for so many years if Tom can tell us all , but he didn't tell us one thing why Antimoon is called Antimoon indeed.
In the same article, he wrote :"But my motivation was too small."
"Too small" doesn't sound right there?
Actually I was wondering about "I tell it all" being not correct. But thanks anyway, that's good to know as well.
>>I believe either"too low" or "low" goes with the word "motivation". <<
Yes, you don't speak of 'small motivation', you say 'low motivation'.

Is it because it should be "This time I'll tell it all"? Is the original version really odd? I think it is, but sometimes I get a bit confused with this stuff.
I bet that none of you were reading what really Tom said. That's for sure.

«Oh, he's not gonna get away with it. He's not gonna get away with anything from now on because I'm gonna **tell it all** right now.»
~Cora in The Postman Always Rings Twice «I came here to tell you the truth, the good, the bad and the ugly. I am here to **tell it all**, pleasant and unpleasant.» ~Colonel North quoted by David E. Rosenbaum in the New York Times «I guess I gotta give you part 2 of my confessions If I'm gonna tell it then I gotta **tell it all**» ~Usher in Confessions Part II If “To tell it all” is incorrect English, then it's incorrect English that native English speakers use.
I've got a question to you have you ever try to find out the root of the sentence before you start to argue with others.
Laura Braun: «I've got a question to you have you ever try to find out the root of the sentence before you start to argue with others.»
If the question was for me, I guess at least two sentences I picked use the phrase “to tell it all” in the same context as Tom's: a context of confession, of admission of past bad deeds, of telling the whole truth. So I found them interesting, especially since they are written by native speakers. That's why I posted them here, in a thread where the consensus seems to be that this phrase is incorrect. |
