APEC languages

There is an important APEC meeting in Peru these days. I know that only English is the official language.

But there are other languages in this important organization. Several Presidents speak Spanish (Mexico, USA, Philippines, Peru, Chile, etc), Malay-Indonesian (Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, etc), and Chinese (China, Hong-Kong, Singapore).

What about the status of Spanish, Malay and Chinese in the future?

APEC e-Learning Initiatives

There is a e-Language Learning Project. Given the importance of second language skills in today's global economy, the U.S. and other countries will launch an initiative that will use the Internet to help students learn a second language.

The initial focus will be on English, Chinese, and Spanish, which are expected to be the dominant languages on the Internet.
