I don't know how to explain my mistake any better than you all do.

But I reassert that I have been around Germans (or German speakers) almost all my life—in fact, I work with an Austrian —so it is a mystery even to me why I didn't recognize the accent with which I am most familiar.

Dubbing is a serious crime imho. When my cousin from Műnchen was visiting, she heard Keanu Reeves' real voice for the first time and she said (falsetto): "I don't like his voice, I like his German voice better". Fuck, fuck and double fuck, how can you say such a stupid thing!?!?
