I have listened to the BBC World Service in Europe for a number of years and have been puzzled by the accent of a newsreader/ continuity announcer Gaynor Howles. Can anyone help? I have ruled out Scots and Irish. If I had to guess I would say Welsh or a regional English accent. Her accent really puzzles me and I would love to know where it comes from!
Gaynor Howles accent
"Welcome to BBC World Service, I'm Gaynor Howells and at 14 hours GMT, the latest headlines from the BBC: There have been intesive last minute negotiations...."
"The clipped Oxbridge tones of the BBC world service presenters are comforting with their understated confidence and poise, though for warmth I prefer the lilting Welsh tones of Gaynor Howles."

Thanks for the confirmation, as I indicated I did think it might be Welsh! Perhaps a holiday in Wales this year to treat my ears!
