Searching on this site

The Search engine on this site is terrible.

Is there a way to restrict the search to, say, posts from a certain year (say 2008 or 2009)? or from a certain author?

Right now, it gives you thousands of posts for common keywords, and it's impossible to find anything or restrict the query. Thanks

If you go to the google website and click on "advanced search", then there will be a "Date, usage rights, numeric range, and more" option in blue. It will probably be by last past date, rather than first post date, however.
