I have mixed feelings about so-called Natural Learning Methods for adults. I wonder if they actually take LONGER than traditional methods and produce weaker results. What's your spin on these methods if you know about them.
Maybe this is the method for people who feel left out in the cold by mean, mean, mean language teachers who taught (eek!) grammar.
I agree that students need a lot of listening, but who can really (as an IE language speaking adult) navigate a "tough" language like Japanese, Chinese, Arabic or Korean simply by listening and a minimum of grammar? Has anyone done this successfully? I certainly believe that some students can learn this way and successfully get coffee instead of a box of snakes in Xian, but are they really fluent?
I'm open to your thoughts on the matter
