Merry Christmas all, hope you will have a great one with family, friends and loved ones.

The robin is the bird which features more on Christmas cards in the UK than any other member of the animal kingdon...this pert, cheeky and extremely tame little wild bird is synonymous with Christmas. The British robin is identical to the Continental robin in appearance but there the similarity ends as the British bird is far more tame and approachable than is its Continental cousin which is a much more shy and unobtrusive bird.
The British robin can be very cheeky and bold especially in harsh winter weather such as we are having in Europe right now, and here you can, with a wee bit of patience, get a robin to perch on your hand especially if it is holding a nice fat juicy mealworm in its palm. This bald headed British guy got his Robin Redbreast to perch on the top of his bald bonce: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1235051/Cocky-robin-The-bird-favours-shaved-head-tree-surgeon-perch.html As per usual heavy snowstorms and icebound roads cause mayhem in the UK - over on the Continent they get far less into a tizzwazz over such things.......although my mates over in the Netherlands told me that their magnificent train system was thrown into disarray by the same snowfalls which have affected many parts of the UK. Edinburgh today has seen heavy snow and a temperature down to -12C this morning...shivering timbers all round in Auld Reekie. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1238128/Big-freeze-threat-family-Christmas-As-death-toll-hits-16-millions-warned-stay-roads-jeopardising-festive-gatherings.html#comments Wien, Oesterreich - Vienna, Austria: The Vienna Boys' Choir: Adeste fidelis : O Come All Ye Faithful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWrMDd-_sp8&feature=related A very Happy Christmas to all Antimooners to whom this festival applies.

Strange -- I'd think Robins would be more associated with Spring, and maybe Easter? (No Robins to be found around here this time of year. Maybe turkeys (don't migrate), and some geese that haven't gone south yet.)

In Wisconsin, the primary bird seen on cards at Christmas is definitely the cardinal with its brilliant red plumage. Turkeys are common as well, but usually only associated with food on the table. Robins are rarely mentioned outside of springtime.
Oooh, haven't seen a cardinal or a bluejay in years! Both of them are really beautiful.
