In Japan, if someone compliments you on your language ability (whether you are good or not), you have to play it down most of the time. You should say something like "Tondemo arimasen" or "Tondemo nai desu." It means something like "That's ridiculous"...
In Dutch, I think you can be truthful about your abilities, but I don't know the best way to accept a compliment.
