American "gonna"
Hi guys,
what is the correct expression:
"I'm gonna sleep" or
"I gonna sleep"?
I think it's the first one, but is the second completely wrong?
"I gonna" is today what "I'm gonna" was some decades ago.
'I'm gonna sleep' would be more acceptable, where as 'I gonna sleep' would be seen as low-class/uneducated by some because of the grammar
I'm wondering, because I'm into Poker and I heard many people saying "I'm gonna check" instead of "I gonna check".
Whether 'I gonna' is wrong is a matter of debate, I think it loses none of it's meaning. Both mean exactly the same thing. I am GOING to.
I've never heard a native speaker say *"I gonna..."--at least not Americans. Maybe they do that in Britain.
It's more like:
I gon'
I gon' ki' you muddafukka!
The only people who would say "I gonna" are uneducated blacks. Intelligent people would never say something like that.
i'm gonna = ə mənə
an extreme assimilation
Some people shorten "I'm gonna" to "I'm 'a". It can be seen in the Kanye West meme "I'ma let you finish."
Why is it spelled gonna anyway, the pronunciation is gunna (like gun).
Guest, what "some people?" The only people who talk like that are uneducated blacks. There's no reason an ESL student should learn such nasty barbaric ways of talking.
Does /"aIm@n@/ /ˈaɪmənə/ for "I'm gonna" sound uneducated?
