"ghoti" vs. "phoche"

Wouldn't "phoche" be a more sensible nonsense spelling for "fish" than "ghoti"? "gh" is never pronounced /f/ at the beginning of a word and "ti" is never /S/ at the end of a word.

Yes, "ghoti" is an illogical piece of nonsense, used by pretentious people who don't have a clue to make them appear clever.

Your "phoche" example would be better suited to pretentious people who actually know something about language.
