"Arse" seems to be more commonly used in England, especially the south, than it is up here and it's pronounced quite a bit differently as well. Down there they say it to rhyme with their "grass" "glass" "pass" etc as in ['a:ss] as opposed to the flatter "A" of the North of England, in spite of the spelling: ['@ss]. The Southern version is used in Estuary as well as you would expect, seeing that Estuaryspeak emanates from the South East...the Estuary in question being that of the Thames ['TemZ].
The noun "arse" can also be verbalised as in "stop arseing about!" meaning stop fooling about, stop taking the piss, quit messing, stop your caper etc.
Versions used here in Scotland for "Arse" as in bum/buttocks are dowp or hurdies but most people use "arse" but the vowel sounds is more drawn out and something half way between the North and South of England.
I'll stop arseing about now and go.
