For

I have a question concerning the pronunciation of "FOR" .

How do you pronounce "FOR" in the next sentences and also what word do you stress "FOR" or the subsequent word.

I'll do it for you. --fɚ ju-- or --fO:r ju--

He won't charge us for it. --fɚ ju-- or --fO: rju--

For you, I'll do it. --fɚ ju-- or --fO:r ju--

Of course I can take care of that for you. --fɚ ju-- or --fO:r ju--

I think that's the right plan. --fɚ ju-- or --fO:r ju--

This new plan doesn't work for me. --fɚ ju-- or --fO:r ju--

Thanks everybody in advance, great forum...

1. I'll do it for you.
2. He won't charge us for it.
3. For you, I'll do it.
4. Of course I can take care of that for you.
5. This new plan doesn't work for me.

Only in 2. and sometimes 4. do I pronounce "for" fully.
In 1,3,4,5 it's unstressed and contracted to " f'r ".

So, guess, first of all what is the rule behind your pronunciation and secondly, are you american?

You're correct. I'm so stupid when saying that? I'm a crazy man?! I'm a stupid thing to go??!!

I would generally say "f.." except when followed by a vowel, for example, "for it" would be pronounced "f.. 'rit". In the north of England it would be nearer "fo". And I'm English, by the way.

Guess

Never was my intention to call you stupid. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to answer my question to the best of your capability and I thank you for that. I was just trying to make understand the reason why you pronounce the word fully in 2 and 4 but differently in the other scenarios, it might be obvious to native speakers, but since I'm not one it is not abvious to me. And maybe I should've specified that I wanted to know how american s pronounce this words, specially because I guess confused sometimes, specially with southern speakers.

I'm a Californian, and I have to say that I'm not really sure what I would say, because shifting the pronunciation isn't something I consciously do. When I read those, I pronounce "for" fully except for the case of "For you, I'll do it.". Even when I'm reading, it doesn't feel right to say "for" fully for some reason... Anyway, when I'm speaking nornally I might shorten some of the others, but I can't figure it out by reading to myself for some reason.

Anyway, I'm just a stupid sheep. I'm a people' shit. So don't trust me!
