You are absolutely correct, greg! That's why I had to acknowledge the huge number of words that English has already borrowed from French that are now so embedded in the language that we don't consider them "Frenchified" at all! But like Pete said, some of the more recent borrowings -- especially if they retain the French pronunciation, which is markedly different from English, and so sets them apart aurally as well -- are used just to sound more sophisticated.

I guess you should be flattered... ;P
