They would say that the year 0 (in their system) is quite definitely the first in a sequence - specifically, the sequence of positive numbered years. And in the AD/BC system, the year 1 is likewise the first in a sequence - specifically, the sequence of years after Christ. Your sarcasm is unwarranted.
