Would u like to learn "widely spoken language" like "Spanish" which is spoken in many countries?

or would u like to learn "the language spoken by most ppl" but only spoken in one country like "Chinese"?

If you can only choose one, what would u choose?

I would go with Spanish. It's related to many other languages, while Chinese is not. I'm a Westerner. Spanish is a Western language. Chinese, or any other Eastern language does not fall into my sphere of influence.

I consider passion for the language to be more important than either criterion for me. You can't learn a language you're not passionate about unless you really have to. (I'm sure some wise guy is going to come along and talk about how English sucks, in English, but it will be badly-written English, proving my point. ;))

Oh, just learn at least three languages. Learn your native language fairly well and learn two others. Make it fun by choosing languages from different families.

It would be better to learn 3 foreign languages (exclusive of your native language).

I am generally uninterested in Spanish, but if I were faced with that dilemma, I would choose Spanish over Chinese any moment, not only because it is geographically concentrated in more places or thus has more universal importance, but also because, being a Westerner, it would be of more immediate usefulness to me as well as more related to other languages I can speak and closer to my interests.
