Too few

Hi, is "too few" idiomatic in American English? Is it commonly used at least? Because I was told that "not enough" is the right thing to say. But I think that "not enough" doesn't stress the fact that there are very few things. Look at this example:

"Only 4 CDs? That's too few!"

What should I say? Thanks :)

"Not enough" does usually sound better, though "too few" is not incorrect. It will sound strange if you overuse it, though.

If you get a very small number when you expected a big one, you could say "That's hardly any!" (or "barely" in place of "hardly"; they're completely synonymous). Or if the number is bigger but still not nearly big enough, you could say "That's not nearly enough!", the word "nearly" emphasizing that you need *much* more.
