rare common words

Are there any advice about how to learn those 'rare common' words. All those words that most native speakers know but most only rarely actually use? Especially nouns for less comon objects.

I think he means easel or enchiridion. Or wench. LOL

Well, native speakers mainly learn them by reading, since you usually only encounter such words in print. We figure them out by context and/or consulting a dictionary. No reason why there should be a different tactic for non-natives.
