"all the Italians pronounce double consonants"
Hey, in North-Eastern Italy (Venice), most people ignore double consonants!
They also often pronounce 'tch' like like 'ts' or 'dz'.
Romans do the opposite, they sometimes pronounce double consonants where there's none (for instance "va'bbene, va'mmolto'bbene"...)
I don't care of which regions are supposed to speak the best standard Italian, all I know is that in 'continental' Italy people are reasonably easy to understand (Florence indeed, Turin, Milan, Rome also but not that much), while in harbour towns (Genoa, Venice, Naples) it's nearly impossible to figure out what people say.
Dear French you should learn raddoppiamento sintattico before posting in here about the Italian language. If you don't know its pronunciation rules you had better say nothing.

Invece, secondo me l'uso esagerato che spesso ne fanno i Romani nuoce all'intelligilità.
ne fanno i Romani nuoce all'intelligilità.
all'intelligibilità :-)

Italian is like French, but straight.
