" The problem is a question of identity : without the french part Canada will lost her specificity, and would be just a "little USA of the north", even if its still be independant from the USA. >>>
What absolute rubbish. "
I am sorry, I know my subject, I've been living in Canada 8 months and also a few ones in USA. Basically these countries (with exception of "French" Canada) have the same culture. I understood very well that there is strong feelings of national identity in the two countries, and so there is a strong feeling of being different. I agree that English Canada has a lot of differences with USA, there they are absolutly insignificant when you look from an outsider point of view (a french Canadian or an European one for exemple) - this is also true that inside USA there can be wider differences of accents, mentality or way of thinking - How different a new yorker is from a Texas farmer, how different is a San franciscan from a black a little Alabama town, How different is an Alakian Inuit from a Porto Rican ?...
For most people of the world, what makes Canada a different country of USA is mainly its bilinguism and the presence of Québec...
The same could be said about Belgium - what would be Wallonia without Flanders ? (or the reverse) It will not be Belgium anymore...

Shut up Dutchy
The same things even worst said the Spaniards about an independant Netherlands
So fuck off and keep your mouth close in a inner issue that concerns Québec only not to a Dutchman.

He has the right to an opinion, French, whether you agree with it or not.
And I can't be the only one here who wishes posters wouldn't tell others to f*** off.

Oh, we WISH they would; we just don't say it (but since you opened that door, Frenchie, why don't you try it first?)
And Bernard, from your rarified position of expertise on the US and Canada (whole MONTHS in each country! My word!) you certainly MUST be the last word on the differences in American and Canadian identity. And the only thing separating us is Quebec, after all? Silly me! I thought it might have had something to do with that little tiff we had in the eighteenth century over just who was in charge of the real estate. And who would be loyal to the crown and who wouldn't. But we Anglo-Saxons always get these things wrong ... must be a giant conspiracy ....

LOL, I love in when French ,the 14 year old french boy, tries to tell me my country's history!
The Spanish king , Fillips II was death terrified of the Dutch independence, you see at that time (and still) the Netherlands were Europe's most heavily populated areas which many rich cities, and this meant a lot of tax.So much tax that the Spanish King was willing to wage war against the Netherlands for 80 years.
And if I have no concern in the business of Canada. Then where do you fit in?LOL!
