what are the practical steps to speak english fluently

MArk, even watching a lot of movies and sitcoms, my accent sucks, my pronunciation is not good either and my fluency is not as close to that of educated people have. Overall, there is more then meets the eye-- immersion is one of various factors in the whole learning process, i suppose, but not everything.

Sanjana you written English is really good, perhaps you are speaking too fast and not thinking about what you are saying, lots of people even those native have those problems, just slow down take a deep breathe and think.

Guest don't worry about accent, this largely is in the "eye of the beholder" i.e. it depends upon the person whether or not they like your accent, pronunciation also varies amongst English native speakers and fluency tends to come with time.

To both of you don't worry, In my experience the only people who will give you a lot of problems of being different are people who you should probably ignore anyway. Just remember to be polite and get away from them as soon as possible.

Sonh,

I really appreciated your post on how you learned English so well without studying grammar, just input, input, input. Your English is great, especially if your speaking is as good as your writing.

One question: Did you work on your output (writing and speaking), or did it just happen naturally, as your comprehension developed?

Can someone answer shikha's or James' question? This seems to be one of the main theme's on this thread--how do you transfer your passive knowledge into spoken fluency?

Hi. I have learned all my subjects in English except for one language subject. I recently graduated and i just joined work.Well my written English is pretty good. And I can speak English but i am not fluent in it. Whenever i start a conversation in English, i get stuck and i am always pausing to get the right word. Even the simplest and easy word seems to be forgotten at that point. Basically i am lost for words. The conversation is not easy, always. What should i do to get to a point where i can speak English easily and fluently? Please help. Soon i will have to present something at my office and i want to do it as best as possible.

Hi
In my opinioni, speaking english fluently is easier than listening.
Because, You can speak easily but you can't understand every thing because of accent.

What are the ideos about this subject?
