What accent do you really hate? and which one you love?

I really dislike when Englishmen of the upper and upper-middle classes speak with even slight traces of Estuary English. It is not what they are supposed to sound like. In my opinion, pure Received Pronounciation (we cannot correctly call it "the Queen's English" anymore) is the finest aceent in the world.

I meant "accent."

I correct myself:upper and middle classes. When the Received Pronounciation is combined with Estuary English, the speaker can sound like he has a slight cold.

<<And when questions are asked about accent, why do people answer with politics?>>

'Cause that's just human nature. People always have opinions and preconceptions about other countries, and it's hard to separate those from the sounds of their vowels. ;)

Yeah, this place is sure full of opinion and preconception.. well, more like misconception..

I´m from Buenos Aires, and RP is what we learn..I mean, I like it but it´s hard to sound natural being a non-native speaker! Guess American English is in some way easier for us southamericans. I´ve attended a congress where we talked about Cockney, Mockney and Estuary English, VERY interesting...

Me again :) was just to say that listening to a native British English speaker is like music to my ears...I could just lay in bed and listen to you people....anyone interested in reading the newspaper and record it for me? lol

***anyone interested in reading the newspaper and record it for me? lol***

Are you particular over the news content? I mean - do you want the bad as well as the good? The Sun or the Times? Och no - diss those. I recommend the Scotsman! Here - have a wee peek:

Damian! I said " read and record the newspaper for me" because I really love how English accents sound...so I don´t care what they say but how they say it :P

I'm a New Yorker and i'm not quite sure what this "NY accent" stereotype is. I'm assuming people have been watching too many mob movies and sadly most of what people outside of this country "know" about us comes from the cinema. I rarely ever hear anyone speak with such an accent, which is more of a Brooklyn one than anything else (Hardly "Italian", again thanks mob movies).

My favorite accent is the Scottish and I also love the Argentinian and Puertorican.

I must say I am not a fan of the German. Australian one I can also do without.

***** "I'm a New Yorker and i'm not quite sure what this "NY accent" stereotype is."*****

I don't know either, but it sounds good. I've been there for a month some years ago and I really enjoyed listening to New Yorkers.

Yeah, same happens here. What people know about Argentina is about the financial crisis we had and the bad things that happens (like in every country). There´s so much more of Argentina than that!!!

Well, thanks! Didn´t know there was someone who liked the way we speak! :)

American accents are cool. They have a rebel sense to them that makes american sound risk taking and wild.
