Why do Dutch and Scandinavians speak English so well?

<<Lastly, English is considered the main-language of the world with Spanish on the second place. Not to put German down or anything, but it is how it is. When you visit a country where you don't understand the language, how do you communicate then? In English, exactly. >>

Although there are still large areas of Europe where German is the most useful language for getting around.

Only Hungary. I can't think of any other country where German is 'most useful language'.

Germany? Austria? Lichtenstein?

Well, of course. But 'large areas of Europe' has a different meaning to me.

Things are different in Europe, German, French and Italian are strong country and their languages too, I'm spanish and I learned french, english and german. You, dutch people, don't know where you live. You're not in USA or in Asia, but in Europe.

Ahh thanks for informing me there man, I thought for a second I was living on Mars. Now my live has meaning again!

please, don't think that Mork is a representant of Netherlands, she seems pretty immature and arrogant, but forgive her, she's young. Not all dutch people are like her. If I find a foreigner who try to speak dutch, I will be happy and I will help him or her. It's so rare that people learn our language, so what they do I'm very happy.
I don't think my english is perfect and I have a heavy accent, I'm currently learning german and chinese. German is a useful language in Europe , mostly if you want to find a good job in Germany or Austria. Many poor european countries learn german first because Germany is the richest country in Europe.

Explain to me why you think I'm immature, arrogant, and young?

I agree with Vanessa. I also find you obnoxious, aggressive and annoying. All you do is hurl abuse at people - no doubt that's what's in store for me now.

I don't care about your opinion, I want a argument. If you even have any, then please share them with me or else don't complain.

I'm German and I'm currently learning some Dutch. I think it's sad a lot of people in Germany - esp. on the border to the Netherlands - don't much care about learning leastwise basic Dutch, to be able to get talking to our Dutch neighbors, but instead expect them to respond in German.
It's not that Germans don't like the Dutch, on the contrary I feel our relations have much improved. It's nothing but pure laziness which can be misunderstood for arrogance or rudeness. I hope that in the future more Germans will be rather more attentive towards our Dutch neighbors!
Sorry for getting of the track now...
