Why is Dutch so close to English?

Dutch always switch to this mode whenever they meet a foreigner, even when he speaks fluent Dutch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6n1lyh6qv4

Scary ain't it?

Yeah, I have to admit that you just zone out and not focus on the actual words, Dutch does sound similar to some regional dialects of English spoken in England, but not like American or regular English.

Nothing sounds like Standard modern english, it's a modern creation, which came from modern broadcast. Just listen to American english from the thirties it sounds very strange

Why are the Dutch always telling people their language is the closest to English?

I mean really, it's technically closer to German than English and that's a fact people. Why keep banging on about it being closer to English when it's not? Do you people in the Netherlands have an inferiority complex? Can't you people just be happy with your own language without having to try so hard to be American or English.
